Learning More About Your Leg Bag
If you are faced with wearing a catheter and leg bag, you may be wondering how the process works. The catheter is inserted into your bladder. As you eliminate urine, the urine will flow through the catheter from your bladder and into the leg bag. The leg bag will be securely attached to your leg. Many people recommend that it be attached to the calf and that you alternate each leg. You will wear it all day, but don’t worry; you won’t be tied to one location. You will be able to move around freely. It can be discreetly hidden beneath anything that you wear, including pants, skirts, or dresses. You can choose from among different sizes so you can find one that feels the most comfortable.
Wash your hands well when it is time for you to empty your leg bag. Make sure the bathroom is clean. Your bag should be emptied as often as is necessary to prevent overfilling. Typically, 2 to 3 times a day is ideal. As you empty the bag, keep it below your bladder and hip. Open the bottom of the bag and then empty it into the toilet. Clean the opening with rubbing alcohol and a clean gauze or cotton. Re-attach the bag to your legs and then wash your hands again.
